AAOC Scholarships 2009 Congratulations 2009 Scholarship Recipients Kelsey Rose Leslie Wishnevski
Arts Association of Oldham County, a 501(c)3, in partnership with the Oldham County Dollars for Scholars (OCDFS) gives scholarships to graduating seniors residing in Oldham County who are outstanding in the field of art. Graduating seniors who plan to attend a two or four year college or university, an apprenticeship or a vocational school in the arts are eligible. Scholarship applications are available on February 1 at www.ocdfs.org. Mail the application to OCDFS but submit your portfolio and portfolio cover sheet to Arts Association of Oldham County (AAOC).
Art
We consider the arts to include but not limited to: · Visual Art - including but not limited to sculpture, painting, drawing, glass work. · Performance Art - including but not limited to acting, written or performed music, including musical theater and voice, dance and choreography. · Creative Writing - including but not limited to journalism, poetry, essays, and literature. · Photography · Graphic Design · Interior Design If you have any question as to what is included in this “art” category, please call for an explanation.
Portfolio
What is a portfolio? It is a sample of your best work in your given field (i.e. music, photography, dance, visual art, musical theater, etc.) You must submit a portfolio and a portfolio cover sheet to AAOC. This is in addition to your application, which is mailed to OCDFS.
What must be included in my portfolio?
Follow the guidelines below for your given field.
VISUAL ART: * NO ORIGINAL PIECES OF ART WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. We CANNOT be responsible for original pieces.
1. Submit between 5 and 8 photographs of your best work. 2. Print photos on good quality, standard-sized paper. 3. Place one photo and a brief description of that photo in each plastic sleeve. 4. Describe each photo including (a) the medium used (i.e. digitized) and (b) why you created this piece. PERFORMANCE ART 1. Submit NO more than 3 pieces. 2. Performances may be presented on a DVD or CD. 3. Include a short explanation of the work (i.e. Is this something you wrote, choreographed, or did the set design or costumes?) Note: - If you are submitting a group performance, be sure to identify who you are! - For music, include a manuscript of the score or an explanation of why it is not available. CREATIVE WRITING & JOURNALISM 1. Submit no more than 5 samples of your best work. (This may include any combination of pieces that equal 5 samples --short stories, poetry, essays, etc.) . 2. Photojournalists - Submit no more than 6 stories with photos and no more than 10 photos in all.
What other things do I need to know about submitting a portfolio?
· Submit a COMPLETED portfolio cover sheet with the following items inside a 3-ring binder with plastic sleeves. Place each piece of work or DVD/CD into a separate sleeve. · A professional who represents the same field of art will judge the portfolio. · Your portfolio should include examples of your best work in your given field. · Your portfolio can be a DVD or CD of performances, a traditional portfolio of visual art or photography, or a compilation of writings. The portfolio cover sheet is included at the end of the application located at www.ocdfs.org · Portfolios become the property of the Arts Association of Oldham County. They will not be returned.
